Day Camp, First Day

As much as I disagree with the diagnoses of ADHD, ODD, and PDD-NOS for Christopher, I must admit, it really opens doors. It seems a lot to be saddled with for one small boy, and for a bit there I was floundering as to what to do. What I really needed was Help. I have a friend, that operates a company, Meaningful Day Services, that coordinates therapy services statewide for children and adults with special needs. I told her about Chris, and she recommended a gal come by and interview with me and Chris. On our first visit, she said she could help us. They provide behavorial therapists that will come out to the house, but in the summertime they have Day Camps. They have a 1 to 1 ratio from campers to therapists, but the kids go from station to station doing music therapy, and art therapy, crafts, and Behavioral therapy. I filled out the paperwork, and Chris qualified! So we opted to send him 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9-3. It's over by the old airport, so not too far away. AND, the best part, the Insurance is covering it, because we've now met our deductible!

Today was Chris's first day. He was so excited, he wanted to pack his own bag, (packpack)and his own lunch. I interceded a bit on that one. He couldn't wait to run right in and Get Playing. He didn't even say Goodbye.

So of course, when I picked him up, he didn't want to leave. But there were a few gals there, who said wonderful things like, "We're so impressed by your son." and "He's so smart!" and "He's adorable." Turns out he's the littlest one attending camp, probably both in size and age. Sometimes that works for him, sometimes not, we'll see. His helper today asked about potty training, apparently, they put him on the potty a few times today. And they said there may have even been pee, and there weren't any poopy diapers. That's all good signs. We talked about his potty training history, and they said they'll try to put him on the potty every hour. Wow. Even I can't/don't do that.
I asked Chris what he did today, and he told me, I played. I found him at a dry erase board that had Mommy, I love you, Love Chris on it. That was when they were complimenting me on his smarts. He sure is one smart cookie! He said he had a lot of fun, and met a friend named "Lil" who wore a grey shirt, and they tried to fight, but he was too fast. Not sure if this was a real person or not, I'll get the scoop tomorrow maybe. They say they'll come out and pick him up from the car even, so I don't have to leave Sam. That'll be nice. Overall I think both Chris and I are quite impressed with his new Day Camp, and he can't wait to go back Wednesday.
