On the Up

So, we went to Riley today, for the first time in a good month for a weight check and meeting with Sara, our Feeding Team gal. We actually got GOOD NEWS!
Chris's weight was up! He's up to 25 pound, 7 ounces, which is almost up to where he was back in December, before all the back to back illnesses. Of course, the last three days, his drinking has been down. So, we'll have to be on it.
We told her that we had noticed increased gagging, and we'd like to have a repeat Swallow Study done, since our results have been bad, then good, we kind of want to make sure they are still good. I also said I was not unopposed to doing the Endoscopy that Dr. M had said would be the next step. She thinks we don't need to take that step yet, because it seems the Periactin is actually working. Her next question was, how's he pooping? Well, kind of slow right now, actually, and winter is his time to get constipated. So, she suggested that since he's gagging on food not water (which is the opposite of what he was doing before) that perhaps he's in need of more liquid. So, it's good they want to keep him out of procedures, I just hope that we continue to get good results with the current plan. We got the OK to give him some more water. To start slowly, so he doesn't fill up with water, we're only giving him 4 ounces with his supper.
We started tonight. First he gagged on his apples, and it made him puke. I was feeling bad that a. he had only drank 1 1/2 cans of milk all day, and now he's puking up his apple supper, so we opted to give him the water tonight. Oh he was thrilled, you think we had given him a gallon of chocolate, instead of water! And he drank it down in 2 minutes. He told me he felt better. I understand, I always feel better after a bit of cool water after I yak.
So, I don't know that the water is going to interfere with much growth wise, in such a small amount, but Sara said, we've got to get him back on water before summer because everybody needs more water in the summer. Very cool, because I was wondering EXACTLY the same thing, how we were going to handle summer, or zoo trips, who wants to drink milk in the heat of July? Pooey! We go back again in March.
