Off Site

Well, it's been a busy week, and it's only Tuesday. Hard to believe.
Yesterday Chris went to school, and in the afternoon, while he was napping, we got a call from his friend Bryn's mom. She's a teacher and some of her students were doing a Special Olympics fundraiser at a restaurant...burritos for a cause, she called it. And we're always suckers for anything for the kids, whether it's cookies for the band, or something like this, we just "cain't say no", so we piled in and went. It was further than comfortable for Mommy to drive (up in Carmel), and Chris was about over it by the time we got there, but he received instant gratification when he saw Daddy meet us, and even more ecstatic when we came upon Bryn and her family. We had a scrumptious dinner, and Chris ate his weight in Tortilla Chips and salsa. Yes, salsa, apparently he has renued interest in Salsa. Daddy says, "MY SON eats chips and salsa for dinner." Well, Mommy's SON ate M&Ms dipped in chocolate sauce the night before. You just never know. I'll give him that he ate Well. And so did we all.
But the end of the evening brought exhaustion and pain for Mommy, and Daddy had left early to attend a meeting in Brownsburg, when a thought occurred to her. We were 5 minutes from Nana. There's no hurry in getting home if bathtime isn't going to occur until AFTER Daddy gets home. Let's GO! Chris was thrilled to "See Nana!" in the evening, and vice versa. Though less than enthusiastic about her dogs, he soon found himself curled up on the couch with the TV on, something he has been deprived of around here, of late. Nana tried to find him a nice cartoon movie to watch, and we grabbed Atlantis, which Nana had but hadn't seen, possibly a movie she didn't realize she borrowed from Lisa. Well, we popped it in, and before we knew it we were all Sucked In. I hadn't seen it in years, and Nana and Chris never had. The three of us, just veged out watching it. Next thing I know my cell is ringing, Daddy is looking for us, he's been home a half an hour, and it's slightly after 8. I explain our situation and he says....

"But It's a School Night."

Oh. It is! We're so busted! I can't just willy nilly keep my son up because I want to play. Someone around here has to be the grownup! (Guess that's Eric.) We hightailed it home. Thank goodness he'd not seen that movie before, there was no fuss pulling him away from it, he didn't realize it wasn't over when I turned off the TV and said, Yeah, All Done...they found it. We have a lot of movies, but I think we could only buy ourselves a year or so of watching movies to the points before they end. The problem lies when Chris wants to watch the same movie over and over and over again.

Today after picking him up from Preschool, Mommy was once again exhausted from the process of getting a boy who would rather run wild out of school and into the car. I closed the car door, exhaled deeply, and asked Chris, "OK! Ready to go home?!"
"No."
"No? (pause of confusion, because he ALWAYS wants to go home, even when I want to go do lunch) What do you want to do?"
"I want Drama. (Grandma)"
Oh. OK, let's see if we can. I called Chris's Grandma, who gets a long lunch break on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we met her at their house. Chris was thrilled. He didn't eat much lunch, but he'd drunk half a can of cocoa on the way, so he probably wasn't too hungry. In my Mind, the best part of the day came after the nerf sword fights when it was time for us to all head out. I asked Chris if it was Time for a Diaper Change...which it clearly was, and he said, "No. I wanna Poo Poo Potty!" Well, Grandma had handily enough just pulled a toddler toilet seat (the kind that sits on top of the potty) out of the crawlspace, and cleaned it up. We plopped Chris on the potty, read a couple stories, and bada bing bada boom-the boy pooped on the Potty....AT Grandma's house!
That's Off Site!
HE pooped on the potty at someone else's house. That's a huge leap...almost for mankind, it means moving on to toilets in public, or friends homes, or dare I say it...more than once a day. It's a leap to Total Potty Training!
Getting out is a great thing!
